Today was a long day! Everything went really well, actually. We only went on an hour longer than she would have normally in school, but I think once we have it down we will be able to do more in less time. Ideally, homeschooling is supposed to be about 4 hours. We ended up about 7 hours, but she had a lot of "breaks" or rather time that I needed to try to figure out how to put the curriculum into practice, as well as some play time, and lunch.
We worked on Math, Literature, Language Arts, History, and Science. She learned about habitats, the Pilgrims, read books, did reading comprehension projects, and also talked about "Speaking With Good Purpose" (one of the keys that her school wants them to learn and exemplify). She worked quite a bit with manipulatives for math and learned about tally marks.
We are coming along! I've included a sample of the things we've done today!
This is a story about Speaking With Good Purpose, called "Toads and Diamonds"
These were the books we read for literature, and the questions she got from the spinner.
I had her illustrate one of her answers from the comprehension wheel.
This was her comprehension from the reading material. She read several stories, and had to answer questions about them.
We did a lot of online Science videos, and educational matching games.
I had her journal about the word habitat, and I thought she might like to
try a word web to explain what she learned from the lesson.
Conceptual thinking about what it would be like to go to a new world.
The Pilgrims' Journey. I also have a globe that I used to illustrate this point.
(She was mostly interested in finding where Aunt Nessa lived on the globe though)
Identifying the 13 colonies.
Math Journal
We will continue one from 50, rewriting this daily. She also is learning
to count by 5's and 10's, which is why you see those filled in.
This was a word problem she entered into her journal.
(This was a very easy problem though, but she needs the practice)
All done! Great Job, Kelsey!!!
Aunt Nessa has a BIG BIG BIG smile on her face after reading this!!! You guys seemed to have a great first day. Keep up the good work!
